SUBMISSION GUIDELINES FOR ACORN
PRESS
The Acorn Press publishes books about Prince Edward
Island by Prince Edward Islanders. Please peruse our online catalogue
to see what kinds of books we publish, and whether Acorn is an appropriate
publisher for what youve written. Genres include fiction,
poetry, non-fiction, childrens picture books, and cookbooks.
If you decide that your manuscript could fit into
Acorns list, please prepare your manuscript according to the
suggestions in Canadian Writers' Market, any of the US Writers Market
publications, or other standard references.
All submissions should be sent by regular post and
be accompanied by a cover letter, which includes the following:
- a brief profile of yourself (one page or less)
summarizing professional and personal information relevant to
this book;
- a list of previous publications, including any
portions of the manuscript that have been published;
- suggestions for possible niche or specialty markets
for your work;
- a stamped self-addressed envelope (Canadian stamps
or international reply coupons only, please) for reply and for
any material you want returned.
In addition, please include the following:
FICTION and NON-FICTION
- a synopsis or outline of the book, and a sample
of 30 to 50 consecutive double-spaced manuscript pages, or enough
stories to make up a sample of this size.
POETRY

of which will have been published individually in such literary
periodicals such as The Fiddlehead, Antigonish Review,
CVII, Grain, and Malahat Review. (Please
list credits.)

- for picture books: the entire manuscript. It
is not necessary to include illustrations as we generally find
our own illustrators.
