ABOUT GEORGES ARSENAULT
Author of Acadian Christmas Traditions and Acadian Legends,
Folktales, and Songs from Prince Edward Island
Island historian and folklorist Georges Arsenault
has been collecting songs and stories from Acadian Prince Edward
Island since his student days in the 1970s. His 17 informants were
mostly hard-working parents of very large families, some well-educated
and some not.
Georges Arsenault's ground-breaking work in Acadian
history and folklore is well-respected throughout Atlantic Canada.
Winner of the Champlain et France-Acadie prize, Les Acadiens
de l'Île, 1720-1980 (Les Editions d'Acadie) also received
a certificate of merit in regional history from the Canadian Historical
Society.
For several years, Georges was the host of CBC Radio
Canada's l'Acadie c'matin based in Prince Edward Island.
Before that, he was host of Bonjour Atlantique, broadcast
regionally from Moncton.
He has authored several other books (in French)
about Prince Edward Island Acadians, and collected Refrains
et melodies, a CD of Acadian Folk Music of Prince Edward Island
(Centre d'etudes Acadiennes, Université de Moncton).
He has authored both the French and English versions
of Acadian Legends, Folktales,
and Songs from Prince Edward Island. Acadian
Christmas Traditions is the English translation
of Noël en Acadie, published by Éditions La
Grande Marée in 2005.
