ACADIAN LEGENDS, FOLKTALES, AND SONGS FROM PRINCE
EDWARD ISLAND
Non-fiction by Georges Arsenault
Acadian Legends, Folktales, and Songs is an English
translation of songs and stories from Acadian Prince Edward Island
compiled by Prince Edward Island historian and folklorist Georges
Arsenault.
Originally published as Contes, legendes et
chansons de l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard, this edition
includes 8 stories, 13 legends, and 23 songs with lyrics and musical
notation, mainly reproduced from taped interviews, as well as photos
of Arsenault's informants.
The book is translated by Sally Ross, a writer and
translator from Nova Scotia. Ross is the author of Les écoles
acadiennes en Nouvelle-écosse, 1758-2000 (Centre d'études
Acadiennes, Universite de Moncton), and the co-author of the prize-winning
book, The Acadians of Nova Scotia (Nimbus). She has also
translated Georges Arsenault's Acadian
Christmas Traditions. |
